You will learn about the principles of timber construction and construction method within the building trade, and will be able to apply the skills necessary to work alongside all of the trades.

Qualification: Level 2

Duration: 24 months

New learners and employers are assessed by a Skills Coach or Business Advisor to ensure their suitability for the programme.
After this, they will complete an initial assessment and scoping to identify areas of improvement, and development goals for the apprenticeship.
An apprenticeship induction is then held for new learners, where they will be introduced to the schedule of study.

Working safely
Measure/mark out/cut/finish/position and secure
Installing door or window frames, linings, floor joist coverings, straight partitions and straight staircases
Installing side hung doors, mouldings, ironmongery, service encasements, wall and floor units, cladding and stair case components.
Erect inclined roofs with gables, soffit and fascia, floor or ceiling joists
Repair and/or replace frames, mouldings, side hung doors, windows, roofing components guttering and downpipes

Knowledge

Technical principles of site carpentry work
Form specific joints required for site carpentry work, such as mitres, butt and halving joints
Work safely at height and use access equipment correctly
Calculate quantity, length, area and wastage of resources
Correct types and usage of PPE/RPE associated with the work
Dispose of waste correctly, protect the work and maintain a clean work space
Characteristics, quality, uses, sustainability, limitations and defects associated with timber and timber-based products
