Apprenticeship:

Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

Qualification: Level 3

Duration: 12-15 months

This standard contains knowledge and competence based units. The qualification incorporates the units from the level 3 certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools and the learner will be required to complete additional optional units that will be tailored to their work role. Observations of working practice to show learner’s competence in their working role are required.

  • Teaching Assistants (supporting in the classroom or 1-1)
  • Teaching Assistants (supporting children with additional needs)

Apprenticeship:

Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

Qualification: Level 3

Duration: 12-15 months

  • New learners are assessed by a Skills Coach to ensure their suitability for the programme.
  • After this, they will complete an initial assessment and scoping to identify areas of improvement, and development goals for the apprenticeship.
  • An apprenticeship induction is then held for new learners, where they will be introduced to the schedule of study.

There are optional units for the apprenticeship, depending on job role. 

  • Support delivery of 14-19 curriculum
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Support literacy and numeracy development
  • Support gifted and talented learners
  • Support children’s speech, language and communication
  • Support young people in relation to sexual health and risk of pregnancy
  • Lead an extra-curricular activity
  • Work in partnership with parents to engage them with their children’s learning and development in schools
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team
  • Provide information and advice to young people
