Apprenticeship:

Adult Care Worker

Qualification: Level 2

Duration: 12-18 months

Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings. This standard covers both Adult Care Workers and Personal Assistants. Personal assistants do the same job as an Adult Care Worker and work directly for one individual usually within their own home. Working with people, feeling passionate about supporting and enabling them to live a more independent and fulfilling life is a rewarding and worthwhile job that provides excellent career opportunities.

Apprenticeship:

Adult Care Worker

Qualification: Level 2

Duration: 12-18 months

  • New learners are assessed by a Skills Coach to ensure their suitability for the programme.
  • After this, they will complete an initial assessment and scoping to identify areas of improvement, and development goals for the apprenticeship.
  • An apprenticeship induction is then held for new learners, where they will be introduced to the schedule of study.

There are optional units to the apprenticeship, depending on the job role. 

Clinical Roles:

  • Assist in the administration of medication
  • Obtain and test capillary blood samples
  • Cause and spread of infection
  • The principles of infection prevention and control
  • Provide support to manage pain and discomfort
  • Contribute to the care of a deceased person

Mental Health Support roles:

  • Understanding mental wellbeing and mental health problems
  • Provide support for therapy sessions
  • Support individuals who are distressed
  • Understanding advocacy

Domiciliary Care Role:

  • Support individuals to meet personal care needs
  • Understand and implement a person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Understanding physiological measurements
  • Understanding how to work in end of life care

Gateway

There is a clear GC Education & Skills career pathway for the apprentice once they've completed the Level 2 Adult Care Worker course.

Care Apprenticeship Routes
